Flat Stanley

During our first pregnancy I was pretty adamant that we wouldn’t find our the sex of the baby until it was born… Dan wasn’t fully on board but ultimately left if up to me.  (Although we never got answers genetically/scientifically/Ultra Sound proof of that little love in my heart of hearts – he is a boy, I called him Jude)

So this time around when we got our positive result and the subject came up, I was PUMPED when D said he wanted to wait to find out if we would have a son or daughter!

But as time moved on there was one aspect that I felt a bit “left out” on…

Calling the baby by a name, or even nickname.

We started with Little Traveler (because we traveled a lot in this pregnancy!) but it’s kinda long for a cute “pet” name…

Then eventually one just happened naturally

Stanley!

Backstory…

Years ago Dan spent a summer trying to figure out why, every-so-often people would call him “Stan” immediately after introducing himself as “Dan”

After a few rounds of this he realized conversations would go like this:

“Hi I’m ____, what’s your name?”

“It’s Dan”

Now – say that out loud at even a normal speaking pace and it can easily sound like “Stan”

So Dan thought it would be funny to have a kid name Stan/Stanley and introduce them together as “It’s Dan and Stan”

Thus – Stanley came to be and is the name by which our friends and family have been calling this baby – so much that it will be an odd adjustment when babe is born and get’s it OFFICIAL name ; )

Stanley has actually become a very endearing name to us both – even though we have a list for both a boy and girl and Stanley is not on either of them.

Someone once mentioned the “Flat Stanley” reference (and relating it to how much Flat Stanley traveled as well as our Stanley!) Although I don’t recall participating in Flat Stanley in school, the term Flat Stanley has taken on a new meaning for me in this later part of pregnancy.

At this point – this baby moves a TON. When it isn’t sleeping, it’s partying and it’s my favorite thing in the world… I will miss this feeling deeply.

Even though this babe seems to be on a mission to create it’s own exit from it’s cozy womb, to me, I still picture our Stanley as a flat, black and white 2D ultrasound

I tend to have a rather literal brain (although it can be wildly, oddly creative with certain things) but when it comes to tangible things, I quite literally cannot picture our baby in possibilities of squishy face and hair or eyes, but  just flat. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago when some acquaintances have babies at 33, 34 and 35 weeks that I realized that – OH MY WORD.

Our baby looks like that, right now.  Fully formed.

I know it’s odd (and not altogether a riveting blog post) – but just an anecdote that amazes me at how amazingly intricate our little tiny human baby bodies are even when we (I, in this case) have completely insufficient capabilities of imagining the goodness that God has prepared for us.

Long before this moment God knew EXACTLY what this baby would look like, talk like, grow up to do and every TINY detail in between.  Yet I cannot even imagine what this babe will look like even when it is growing everyday in new ways!

In real news/updates!  If you read this post you know that we had to find a new practice as we risked out of Midwifery care due to the size and location of a huge fibroid I have near my cervix.

WELL!

At our 34 week appointment this week the Dr did a brief ultrasound (we don’t have our formal one until Friday with the specialist, so the latest images he had were from six weeks prior) because he was curious as I had mentioned I think it had moved. (and he’s our new OB who took quite a bit of effort to find a going through 2 other practices! That’s for another blog post…)

In that ultrasound he confirmed that YES the fibroid moved AND the baby is head down! PRAISE THE LORD!

Thank you to all who prayed for these miracles as they were both issues that would have caused a us to schedule a C-Section had both not happened!

That’s what I have for now folks – what a journey this is and we are getting more and more excited to meet this sweet baby everyday!

xox,
K 🙂
